September 16, 2015

While Toad Hill'is She's Magic was away for training down in Sullivan, Illinois ... early in the morning (6 am) I heard the phone ring. Now a call that early is usually considered bad news, I answered the phone and it was Amanda. Amanda is training Magic for driving, so I said hello and next thing out of my month was: "What's wrong?"
Amanda said no problem, just she was out with the minis in the pasture and there was Magic with a foal by her side. Now THAT WAS Totally UNEXPECTED!!!

Photos taken at 5 days old.

A Walk in the Park . Dec. 13, 2014

Debbie Tennant owns Tall Oaks Farms and has a number of miniature horses and a team of Halfingers. During the Christmas season she participates in Christmas Parades and also gives evening rides in the area. For the past three weekends she has given wagons rides at Blue Island, Wilmington, IL. Of the horses in these photos four of the six are from Toad Hill Minis. Debbie also has three others that rotate depending on the number of wagons and carriages she takes to these events.

Below Summer Wine is hot and sweaty, but it is 95 degrees outside and she is still having fun running around

Early rising this morning, went out to feed mares and surprise...Stormy Weather was definitely in foal, but no longer. Believe this is a filly and was out with 6 mares and foals, just visiting with the herd. Brought the mare and foal in...snapped some photos, fed and watered mom and left them in for the day so little one could rest and bond with mom. Thinking of calling her: Toad Hill's Last of Summer Wine... last tv program I saw last night and she is the last foal for this summer.

Toad Hill's Last of the Summer Wine is the filly born to Stormy 7/31/2014.  AMHR registered. Mare is Toad Hill's Stormy Weather (AMHR-37") and sire is Lucky Four RebelChase RebelHeir (AMHA/AMHR).

Building a Chariot Part 1–Blue Chariot

I saw these photos on Facebook, they were posted by Robert Enoch of Ohio. I appreciate that he has given me permission to post these images.

Let me introduce Robert Enoch. Jack of all trades from what I can see on FB. Genius with Chariots!!

Two views of the prototype chariot undercarriage.

Close up of undercarriage. Notice how long the bars holding the axles are. This is because the wheels that will be attached are (guessing) at least 28 inches in diameter.

This is the side view of the chariot after assembled. This photo was added here, so the size of the wheel can be compared to the previous photo of the  undercarriage.

Notice that for added strength, there is what I think is rebar going from the supports for the axles to the front of the chariot.

Not only did Robert make the chariot, he also made the double tree and neck yoke. (My best guess is he bought the wheels.) Double tree and neck yoke.

Assembled double tree and neck yoke.

Additional information from Robert.:
It took me a week in my spare time to hand make the tongue neck yoke and eveners. I cut out the general lengths and shapes with power saws hand saws then I shaved the wood into the final shapes I desired and sanded and applied the desired finish to the wood. Then I built the mast part of the frame for the tongue to attach firmly to the body and drilled it out for future shafts to be exchanged and bolted up.

Building a Chariot Part II–Red Chariot

The photos that follow are of the second chariot built by Robert Enoch. The photos start with building the “cab” and then the undercarriage. Thanks to Robert for providing the photos and permission to post these.

Notice the holes in the front of this cab. These will connect the undercarriage to the front of the cab.	Front view of same cab. Holes are visible in this photo as well.
Same cab painted.

Undercarriage.

And close up of wheel.  I think I counted 16 spokes…

ASSEMBLED!!!

Looks simple, doesn’t it?  Before trying to build your own, I suggest you build a prototype first and then test it. You need to make sure the system is the correct dimensions, proper clearance below the cab, the wheels are the right diameter and the whole unit is well balanced.  The rest of the story from Robert: I used a smooth sided 55 gallon metal drum for the body. I'm not in the position to start building and selling a lot of these right now but may consider it for the future.  I tried to find a good quality chariot for a mini online to purchase but didn't find any that I was happy with so I just decided that I want one and with my past profession skills to build my own, so here it is.  As for the cost the most expensive thing on this build for us was the wheels.  The rest would have been a bit costly to do all at once but I bought as I went through on the build and just got what I needed at the time. I haven't added up the cost of the build and yet I don't want to put a price on what it took it to be here today either at this time...Thanks for your inquiry!  And I don't mind if you want to repost pictures of it and comment on it. I'm just not at the position at this point to start producing these as of yet..may consider it for the future though..
