Toad Hill's Slate Finds a New Home

Toad Hill's Slate was foaled in May, 2008. He placed 3rd in Top Ten multicolor and Reserve Champion for Produce of Dam (for Willow in 2009) with Summer Breeze,  in 2009 he was then sold to Kate who spent many hours with her first mini training him for jumping and tricks. His new name is now Gus.
Gus was a fast learning and learned how to walk over obstacles and jump.  Below are some of his photos.

Kate is now in college and Gus was by himself, without a mini for a buddy. So Kate started looking for a good home for Gus. Another friend of mine, Debbie saw the ad and called about him. One thing lead to another and now Gus will be trained for driving and help Debbie with her hobby which is driving minis.
Below is a photo of Lincoln and Baldrige (same age as Gus) pulling one of Debbie's wagons in the Christmas, 2013, parade.

Driving Team - Frame Overos

Mini Bucks Chasing Rainbows and Mini Bucks Avalanche are now my new driving team.  They were trained by "Squirt" down in Arthur. He does a great job, and has trained a number of my minis...both ones he bought from me and now others when I need the help.
This is the most recent team. I loaned Squirt my breaking chariot and if we do not sell this team at the Arthur sale, June 8th....they might very well become a chariot team.

The filly who is 3 years old is the one with the black ears and black tail.

They look like they need more work to get in the right condition. This winter they did very little but just hang around in the nasty weather.

Just imagine this team in their blue harness that I used for Toad Hill's Lincoln Award and Toad Hill's Balrige Award (photo below) pulling a black chariot!!

Willows 2012 Foal - Dark Shadows

Toad Hill's Wind in the Willows had her 2012 foal.

Willow is an independent sort of mare, she likes to have her foals on the lawn during the day. Yesterday, Saturday, May 12th, about noon I looked over to the east of the lawn and there was Willow and a dark shadow moving behind her. Immediately I know that she had just dropped her foal.

I have a theory about horses and where they should foal. Keep them in the barn and they get lazy...the foals are not as eager to get up and run off....let them foal outside and within minutes of dropping a foal they are on their feet, ready to flee if need be.

Of course there is little reason to run these days when you are born on the lawn in a fenced area, but this little kid was up moving off with mom, then nursing in less than 10 minutes.

I am tempted to call him Toad Hill's Dark Shadow. More photos to come.

Like Father, Like Son - Blue Roan in Springtime

A while back I compared the various colors that Boones Buckeroo Fancy Pants changed through the seasons in "Fancy Pants - The Transformation".
Today when I went out with the camera, I snapped two photos one of Fancy Pants and the other his son, Little Blue.

Right now they both appear fluffy white with black points, but since Little Blue had his neck clipped a little, you can start to see the roaning showing through.
Too bad I could not get him to pose like daddy.
When I gave Little Blue his first haircut, he looked like the photo above...not fluffy with with dark neck, but light where I clipped and dark fuzzy on body.
Roan coloring is fascinating to  watch just like the colors of the seasons.

Little Blue's First Haircut -Blue Roan Colt

With such beautiful, and unusually weather I have been hesitant to clip horses. But today, yet another warm, sunny day I decided to see how the little colts would take to getting a haircut. Perhaps not yet ready for showing, but the first step is the most scarey for a little one. What with the noise of the clippers especially around the head and ears...it was a good first try.
Little Blue (actually Toad Hill's Fancy Tanazite) stepped up and volunteered for the adventure.

T. H. Madame Butterfly

We often have neighbors come by and want to visit with the minis. Not everyone has the property to own their own horses, but still they love to visit. This little girl walked around with her mom and was followed by Butterfly the entire time. We put a halter on her, and let the little girl sit on Butterfly and then walk her around.
Her mom sent us this photo of the two together. Just thought I would share.

Below photos of Madame Butterfly on 12/28/2012.
She is AMHR registered at under 34". Great disposition,

Here are some more photos of Madame Butterfly.

Just What I Need, Another Stallion

So one day I was online and noticed that Sally Stephens of Mini Bucks in Cambridge, Illinois was selling out. In addition I was going through an Overo Phase.
What do you mean Overo Phase?
I decided I would like to bred a perfect Frame Overo. I had already purchased Foxfire's Picture Perfect, but here in practically my backyard was another opportunity to get a frame overo stallion.
So this post is to introduce Mini Bucks Avalanche.
AMHA, AMHR registered, foaled 5/6/2009 this two year old stallion has already been bred to two Toad Hill mares for 2012 foals.
Avalanche is 33" tall and his pedigree is shown below the next photo. Avalanche's sire, Colorworlds Neon Knight is also the sire of one of my other stallions, Toad Hill's Rust Spot.
You should see how nicely Avalanche has matured, he trots around here with his head held high and that beautiful archy neck. I am really very happy with him.

Oh, did I mention also that I bought a frame overo filly also from Sally, shes in the next post.

UPDATE May, 2012
Avalanche is a daddy...he was bred to two mares in 2011, both had foals on the same day.

Sorry but this first photo was in the barn and the filly moved.

Toad Hill's Toni Terrific had a filly.

Trail or Driving This 4 yr Gelding Does It All

Thinking of a perfect trail or driving gelding for your son? This four year old gelding can do it all. Check out the photos below from videos shot of him driving and being ridden.

He is used to walking in creeks but occasionally needs a little prompting to step in, but once in he is fine.

Will travel in almost any terrain. Below you see him going up a steep hill.

He drives real smooth, is good natured. Fine around trucks, combines and snowplows. Noise does not bother him.
Serious inquiries please email for a link to view him in videos that these images were pulled from.
